10 Dance 2025 Movie Review
Honestly it is refreshing, It is a gay romance which feels real. Blonde the romance characteristics they really made the dances and beautiful. I often felt after watching an anime regarding a specific theme that I had to practice and do the same Activity, they succeeded to convey the same feeling regarding dance. I really enjoyed how it was not just based on romance but how they evolved around dance but also how their feelings grew. I felt a little bit sad regarding the female role I believe they could have played a more relevant role though. However they really acted in an outstanding way. I usually don’t like Japanese acting finding it quite often unreal but for the first time I was phased with it and nothing really bothered me.
Now why didn’t we get some of that steamy party train action in Cherry Magic, huh? Such prudes depriving us of that. Although I think poor Adachi would not have been able to handle it lol… This movie was a bit of a letdown. It does not succeed as a gay storyline (they’re bi but whatever), it does not provide anything significant in that register and it’s not satisfactory as a BL either. In fact it dances between the two genres and doesn’t do much for either of them. On top of all in the beginning it gave off manga vibes so I was a little taken aback by that too. But it didn’t keep at it thankfully. The actors probably put in a lot of effort in mastering the moves and there are plenty of those scenes, but it doesn’t make it a story about the dancing either.
There’s not enough about Keita Machida’s character’s background and why he cannot progress. They think they give us enough background story and they do, but they do not explore it. Things happen, lines are said, but I am none the wiser as to what makes that man tick cause then he distances himself from Suzuki for the competitions. That trick at the end to get them dancing in public was cheap and I’m not buying it, especially how it ends between them. Maybe this should have been a manga series, I initially thought it’d be a series and was surprised to find out it was a movie. But if this is the subject matter and these are the characters I’m glad to have saved my time. I also didn’t like Ryoma Takeuchi’s character and we barely scratch the surface with him outside of his constant posturing and always being on the edge of having a fit.
I will say one thing – it feels to me that Keita Machida walks the same fine line that Tony Leung is famous for – acting longing and sorrow with his eyes. There are some nice shots of his face and he conveys a lot, shame that the story is not up there to reveal the character to us in a more meaningful and impactful way.
