As someone who writes professionally, albeit as a marketer, I was very positively surprised that the magazine still sticks to rigorous, time-consuming quality assurance processes, especially in a world obsessed with generating content at scale. For instance, it blows my mind that writers literally sit down with editors and go through notes and corrections face to face, instead of communicating solely via comments on a virtual document.
This thoughtful approach is felt. I am glad that the New Yorker is not succumbing to the pressure to sacrifice quality for quantity.
The people also seem incredibly kind, especially David Remnick. Who wouldn’t want to work for someone so amazingly talented, yet equally humble?
Overall, this documentary will be a beautiful watch if you are at all interested in the publishing industry, appreciate high-brow journalism, or want to learn from an institution that has stood the test of time.
