The ‘Burbs 2026 Tv Show Review
In my lifetime (I am now 80) I have walked out of exactly one movie. That was “The Burbs” in 1989, I like Tom Hanks but it was that bad. So when I saw that Peacock was coming up with a new series of the same name I was naturally curious.
Well I watched the first episode today, the first day of availability. All I know for sure is there are two episodes. The license plate on a real estate agent’s car didn’t show a state, it showed “Drive Safely.” Apparently it was filmed in the Universal Studios backlot.
The plot focuses on a couple, Keke Palmer as attorney Samira Fisher with a newborn boy. And her husband, Jack Whitehall as book editor Rob Fisher. They moved to the Burbs (suburbs) back to Rob’s old neighborhood.
All that is fine but the neighbors are unlikeable characters, the dialog is poor, and right away they start with R-rated language. For no good reason. It quickly turned what could have been a nice show into a pretty weak one.
Of course there is the dilapidated old house in the Cul de sac that some say is haunted but other than the “for sale” sign placed in the front yard the first episode has little to do with it.
I will watch the second episode but I don’t have high hopes. Sorry, Peacock, it doesn’t look you have a winner. Hire better writers and show runners.
