Lanterns 2026 Movie Review

I went into Lanterns hoping the first episode would at least give me a reason to watch the second. It didn’t.

The biggest problem is simply that it’s boring. There was nothing particularly intriguing about the story, no compelling mystery, and by the end of the episode I genuinely didn’t care what happened next.

For a show about Green Lanterns, the use of the ring was especially disappointing. We see it being used to light a cigarette and create a bottle opener. Seriously? One of the most powerful weapons in the DC universe, capable of creating almost anything its wearer can imagine, and this is what the writers came up with.

Then there’s Hal Jordan apparently flying without the familiar green energy surrounding him, which just looked strange and completely undermined the visual identity of the character’s powers.

I’m also baffled by the flood of 9/10 and 10/10 ratings. After watching this episode, I struggle to understand what exactly people found exceptional enough to justify scores like that. There was very little tension, spectacle or intrigue here.

Maybe the series improves, but a premiere is supposed to make you want to continue watching. This one did the opposite.

On the positive side, there’s no Pedro Pascal or Zendaya.
