Ice Cream Man 2026 Movie Review
I’m genuinely surprised by how much hate this movie is getting.
I enjoyed the film from start to finish. Is it realistic? No. Does every scene flow like a conventional serious horror movie? No. But I don’t think that’s what this movie was trying to be.
To me it almost felt like playing a video game. You move from one crazy situation and over-the-top kill to the next, never quite knowing what ridiculous thing is going to happen next. Once I looked at it that way, I had an absolute blast with it. It was different, fun, fast moving and kept me glued to the screen for the entire runtime. I even stayed to watch the short scene after the end credits when the whole cinema had cleared out and was empty.
A lot of the criticism seems to focus on the movie being ridiculous, unrealistic, shallow or over the top, but those were honestly part of the appeal for me. Not every horror movie needs deep characters, a complicated story and completely believable situations. Sometimes I just want a fun slasher that knows exactly what it is and goes completely nuts with the idea.
That’s not to say everything worked. A few of the death scenes looked pretty cheap and could definitely have been executed better, and there were moments where the quality of the effects took me out of it slightly. So I’m certainly not calling it a masterpiece.
But did I have fun watching it? Absolutely. Did it keep me entertained from beginning to end? Absolutely.
I would much rather watch a flawed movie that tries something different and keeps me entertained than a technically “better” movie that bores me.
