Normal 2026 Movie Review

“Normal” is enjoyable enough – and that’s basically my review, folks. What else is there to say? You can sit down, watch this movie, be somewhat entertained, and immediately forget about it once the credits roll.

There is care and competency in “Normal”, which is surprising given that this is a ridiculous, cheesy action film at its core. For one, the movie looks really good, with very pleasant visuals of a small, snowy Minnesota town. The movie is pretty, and you can tell that the filmmakers wanted to charm their viewers. Additionally, all the acting here is great, with Bob Odenkirk especially giving a subtle but vulnerable performance. He has some great interactions with the town locals, and its really fun to watch a character who is down on his luck but very pure of heart, who is simply trying to do the right thing.

If you’re watching “Normal,” you’re probably watching it for the action – the first thing you should know is that this is a slow burn. The film takes its time setting up its characters and setting; by the time the first action scene happened, I almost forgot that “Normal” was supposed to be an action movie. The second thing you should know is that, while there isn’t as much action as there is in Odenkirk’s “Nobody” series, the action here is still brutal and satisfying. While the action does lean on the sillier side, with plenty of ludicrous moments of exploding heads and bodies, there are still a handful of hand-to-hand fight scenes (my favorite!) that were fittingly close-quarters and especially violent. The movie also has a ton of shootouts, which weren’t as well filmed as something along the lines of “John Wick,” but that were still entertaining and high-octane.

I think my favorite part about “Normal,” though, was the overall suspense and story progression of the plot – I went into this movie completely blind, having not even seen a trailer. I was genuinely surprised with where the story went, and thought it contained some pretty unexpected twists and turns; it’s nothing particularly innovative, but walking in with zero knowledge of the film really made me susceptible to the surprises in its otherwise generic plot.

Overall, “Normal” is a pretty good film. I don’t think it’s as good as “Nobody,” but it does have a certain charm to it that’s undeniable. If you’re a fan of Odenkirk, of action films, or both, you’ll probably find something to enjoy here.
