Chris & Martina: The Final Set 2026 Movie Review

Anyone with a knowledge of tennis will know of the rivalry of Chris and Martina in the 70s and 80s. It was often a rivalry at the end of each tournament – in the finals. But watching this well edited documentary, the viewer is given a more intimate insight into their personal lives.

We see Chris’, tunnel focused, desire to be No 1. Martina’s desire to live an authentic life, free from the restrictions of her homeland, while struggling with the loss of family contact.

Interspersed and well balanced through out this sensitive documentary are their recent challenges of overcoming cancer.

At times I felt like a fly on the wall in awkwardly intimate situations. But I came away with much greater insight into their personalities, and the treatment that everyone has to face fighting cancer.

As Chris Evert told ‘The Athletic’, “There’s no B. S. in this film.”

Highly recommended.
