Mating Season 2026 Tv Show Review
I finished the show yesterday. Here is what I think.
First off, allow me to play devil’s advocate for a minute. I completely understand why people might be hesitant to get into this show. If viewers were uncomfortable with the explicit themes in Big Mouth or Human Resources, Mating Season will not change their minds. In fact, due to the sheer amount of sexual content occurring in every episode, it might be even more polarizing for that crowd.
But for people who do not mind these adult discussions, Mating Season pulls them off beautifully. The way the writers tackle complex topics like work spouse culture, polyamory, mommy issues, jealousy, performance anxiety, and the struggles of platonic cohabitation is incredibly grounded.
The series uses its wild premise to explore real, messy relationship dynamics, keeping the humor sharp while actually saying something meaningful about modern romance. What really elevates the show is how it handles the core group of friends. Unlike Big Mouth, where friendships devolve into toxicity under the stress of puberty, or Human Resources, where the characters are literal embodiments of chaotic emotions, the group in Mating Season is genuinely supportive. They remain solidly platonic. Even when they joke about hooking up or awkwardly attempt to cross that line, it just does not work out.
Ironically, a show about literal animals ends up feeling the most distinctly human. It delivers arguably the best portrayal of a healthy friend group I have seen so far, capping off a bold, hilarious, and surprisingly relatable first season. I am crossing my fingers for a renewal, but I also would not be surprised if its run is cut short.
