Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials 2026 Tv Show Review
Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent gets drawn into a murder case when a guest is killed after a party at her family home, ‘Chimneys’. She is soon drawn into a world of secret societies and intrigue.
I was a little unsure what to expect. Chris Chibnall has a flair for crime – it’s hard to forget ‘Broadchurch’ – but he also has a knack for leaning too heavily on social issues.
I have to say I enjoyed the series; it was engaging enough for me to watch in one sitting. It’s visually very appealing, well acted, and the core of the story is intact.
Christie puritans will be reaching for the smelling salts. Expect the usual run of “does he think he knows better than Dame Agatha?” and “why change it?” arguments, which felt tired twenty years ago during the ‘Marple’ series. Face it – there will be changes to material that’s many decades old. Just wait and see what Sarah Phelps does with ‘Endless Night’.
I’ll agree with the detractors on one point: the ending was diabolical. But it didn’t alter my enjoyment. My question is, Chris Chibnall, why? Just to irritate a particular faction of fans?
The visuals are spot on – fantastic costumes, makeup, sets, and locations. Beautifully produced.
A nice addition to the book and a jolly good companion to the Cheryl Campbell adaptation.
The acting is very strong, but the standout for me was undoubtedly Mia McKenna-Bruce, who shines as Bundle. I wonder if we’ll see her back at Chimneys?
