Sheep in the Box 2026 Movie Review
Firstly why that title:
In the book ‘The Little Prince’, the prince asks the narrator to draw him a sheep. After several failed drawings, the narrator simply draws a box and says:
“The sheep you wanted is inside.”
The prince is delighted because he can imagine the sheep for himself. It is a metaphor for wondering and imagining.
Watch the movie to discover for yourself who or what you think is the sheep or the box, and who or what you think is the prince and the narrator,
The unjustified negative reviews mainly by western critics almost put me off watching this movie. I’m glad I did watch it afterall! Ignore those stereotypical western reviewers who typically cannot at all make sense of introspective seemingly minor nuanced scenes, which are not unusual in Japanese and Korean movies.
The theme and topic are hardly new nor bold, but this movie has enough heart and originality with likable good actors to have earned its own accolades as it is.
The main flaw I find is the rather convenient and preposterous ‘happy ending’ which threw the whole movie into unnecessary mush – if it had left that more open for the audience to ponder on a while, it would indeed have been a better movie.
Ignore the fixed mindsets of western reviewers and go watch this very human story.
