The Apartment Job 2026 Tv Show Review

Episode 1 of The Apartment Job opens with our protagonist, Mr Park Hae-kang’s, routine from home to his office, HK Trading and Investment. There, every sort of gambling is going on.

The protagonist meets Mr Oh and Mr Choi, borderline extorting them for the pending dues. His research is meticulous on the people’s assets, both financial and otherwise. We are also introduced to Mr Lizard who works at an apartment complex office, earning a decent income.

Next, we meet Ha-ri, participating in a parents race at a school as a hired talent. Later, her handler gives her a rundown to improve her performance. She’s a law-career aspirant but failed the bar exams. She has been lying to her family ever since.

On her way home, her sister joins her but Ha-ri hesitates to tell the truth. However, her sister’s mind is on her clothes that Ha-ri stole. Her sister buys her new outfits as she needs to make an impression as a lawyer.

The next day, she heads to her free legal consultant job at the basement of a law office.

Hae-kang and a few other people go on a hike, while Hae-kang is carrying all their luggage. One of the group is Son Dae-un, the Chief of Investigation at Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

He actually helped all of them out by pulling tricks like rigging a website bot and making his employees stand in long queues. Finally, he shares bribe money with them and offers to make a run to the city to get a light for Son Dae-un.

Later, Hae-kang goes to visit an older man who is playing badminton with Ms Kim. The man is his boss, even if he is just a figurehead now. They discuss their business and incomes, where Hae-kang says that he wants to earn more so that he can help his colleagues follow their dreams.

At the office, the Lizard makes a scene and Hae-kang allows money to be lent to him. However, he has his suspicions.

Next, we see The Value State Management Office where Ha-ri’s older sister works. The boss, Mr Choi, comes up and asks her to continue “the other job” but she refuses.

Just then, Ms Jang, a resident, comes there complaining about the floor repair costs. A man, presumably of a higher stature, arrives there, bringing along food gift bags.

Later, we see a bevy of cars head to Pine Tree Farm. These cars are carrying important men, namely: Song U-sik, the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs; Choi Seung-ho, the Prosecutor General; Yoo Gwang-ho, the Supreme Court Justice; and Lee Sang-gyu, the President of Gongyeong Daily.

These men tend to bonsai pine trees while discussing making a certain Mr Kim the President of South Korea. The man who got the food gift bags join them, asking them to make the presidential talks a reality.

Kwak Ju-gwon, the police commissioner, joins them, expressing his admiration for the men. The mystery man interrupts him, and asks for a payment of 10 billion Won to join the One Club.

Later that night, he discusses the payment with Son Dae-un. The latter then visits Hae-kang to ask for the money. He slyly threatens Hae-kang before leaving.

The next day, Hae-kang’s business is put under audit, and his employees, including boss Park Yong-man, are arrested.

He brings some money to Son Dae-un that night, begging him to let go of his employees and business. Son Dae-un gives him an ultimatum – three months to get the 10 billion Won and only then will he release the main boss, Park Yong-man.

We are then given a small flashback to 20 years ago, where we see the beginning of Park Hae-kang and Park Yong-man’s partnership. Hae-kang’s father had taken a 30 million Won loan from Yong-man with Hae-kang as a collateral. Hae-kang’s father gambles away his fortune, and the young boy reluctantly joins Yong-man’s business.

Back in the present we see Yong-man is in prison. Yong-man tells Hae-kang to look after his men but he resolves to get Yong-man back. Hae-kang meets up with his three important assistants, and asks them to go their own ways.

Despite leaving, they do actually end up returning because of their loyalty towards Yong-man and Hae-kang.

The team then reach out to several people to collect unpaid debts. Hae-kang has also sold his car and apartment, but they still come up short. After seeing a client getting a lot of gift money from a birthday celebration, Hae-kang and his team decide to host something similar, like a wedding, to get the money back.

Ha-ri offers free advice to an old woman seeking help about inheritance. Her boss reprimands her for it and she receives a call for a gig over the weekend to be a fake bride for Hae-kang.

Ha-ri is reluctant but she agrees for a payment of five million Won. After the wedding, the guests demand they kiss, and she agrees… for an extra payment of two million Won of course!

However, even after the wedding, they fall 6.5 billion Won short. They head out to collect debts from the Lizard, who is currently in Osan.

When Hae-kang threatens him, the Lizard gives him an idea. The Lizard has been inflating maintenance fees and repairs costs as the apartment complex representative.

He suggests Hae-kang become a representative at his complex so he can also follow the same method to get his money. Interestingly, Hae-kang seems to like this idea.

The first episode of The Apartment Job delivers non-stop plot twists throughout. From the introduction of those in power, to Hae-kang’s gambling den business, to even Ha-ri’s role, this episode laid a lot of groundwork for the story to build upon.

I am largely interested in the mystery man and the nature of his work. He has the power, influence and money to buy people off easily. I wonder how his story will overlap with Hae-kang’s.

However, this drama also sheds light on the complex management system of apartment complexes and how those in power can do illegal activities without a shred of guilt.
