Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu 2026 Movie Review

Seven years after the last “Star Wars” movie hit the big screen, the best that Lucasfilm and Disney can offer is “The Mandalorian and Grogu”? The movie isn’t bad – as long as you go in with the right expectations. If you’re expecting something groundbreaking, or perhaps a glimpse into the future direction of the “Star Wars” universe, you won’t find it here.

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” is probably the safest movie they could have made. For two hours, Grogu pulls funny faces while Mando takes on missions for shady characters who give him information leading to even shadier ones. Every now and then, Grogu reminds us that he’s far more powerful than he looks, but after three seasons, it feels like we’re ready to see more than just the surface of his abilities and how he actually uses them. Oh well…they’ll make another ten versions of Grogu toys in different poses, and if the movie itself doesn’t make huge money, the merchandising certainly will.

Mando remains the badass character who supposedly isn’t meant to remove his helmet – despite already doing it several times throughout the series – but just to reassure us that Pedro Pascal didn’t record only voice-over lines, we do get to see his face for a while here too.

The story doesn’t exactly reach new cinematic heights, but if you walked in expecting four episodes of “The Mandalorian” with a bigger budget and better visual effects, you probably won’t be disappointed. Overall, kids will enjoy it, while the rest of us continue waiting for “Star Wars: Starfighter”, which, in my opinion, would have been the better return of “Star Wars” to the big screen.

Maybe I sound a little negative, but I’m just being realistic. From the very first day the film was announced, I didn’t expect anything different from what we ultimately got. Honestly, aside from a few returning characters and some throwaway lines, the movie almost completely ignores the events of Season 3 of “The Mandalorian”. I understand that, apart from a few moments, it was the weakest season of the three, but still…by that logic, the events of this movie could easily have been Season 4 of the show.

Visually stunning, but ultimately another familiar space western that doesn’t offer us anything beyond what we already know. There are fun moments, there’s decent action, and then it ends. Roll the credits.

This was the way…seven years ago. Now it’s simply more of the same. Enjoyable, but very familiar.
